"Transmigration is no longer just about moving people, but about building human resources. It is not only about creating settlements, but developing economic zones," he said here on Friday.
He made the statement during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Ministry of Transmigration, and the Ministry of Industry in Jakarta.
The three ministries signed an MoU on the development of industries in transmigration areas as an effort to strengthen cross-sectoral synergy and speed up the revitalization of 154 transmigration areas across Indonesia.
He noted that the new transmigration concept is designed to meet development challenges through research, innovation, and data, moving away from conventional approaches of the past.
According to him, the transformation efforts are being implemented through five core programs: Transtuntas, Translokal, Transpatriot, Transkaryanusa, and Transgotongroyong, which integrate legal, social, economic, and cross-sector collaboration.
Minister Suryanagara added that the partnership with the Industry Ministry marks a concrete step under the Transgotongroyong program, aiming to accelerate industrial development in transmigration areas.
Transmigration regions, he said, offer land and labor, while industry brings capital, technology, and access to markets, forming a synergy to establish new economic growth centers.
He emphasized that infrastructure and facility support from the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development will strengthen livability and support economic drivers in these areas.
"We want every transmigration area to be livable, support growth, and be profitable, serving as a new engine of Indonesia's economy," he said.
