Sukamara (ANTARA) - The Sukamara District Government in Central Kalimantan has prepared 962 hectares of land to support the Rice Field Development Program.

The figure was adjusted from an initial proposal of 1,000 hectares following a survey and design investigation (SID).

Head of the Sukamara District Agriculture and Food Security Office, Dwi Harsini, said the allocation was already the maximum possible given the limited agricultural land available in the region.

She explained that the areas were selected carefully to ensure they were suitable for rice cultivation.

The prepared land is spread across several locations. In Pantai Lunci Sub-district, Sungai Pasir Village provides 350 hectares.

In Kuala Jelai Sub-district, Pulau Nibung Village contributes 90 hectares, while Sungai Baru Village adds 522 hectares.

Of the total, 290 hectares in Pulau Nibung and Sungai Baru will be integrated into the government’s transmigration program.

Dwi stated that the project is funded by the state budget (APBN) with around Rp27 billion allocated for 962 hectares.

In addition, Rp3.1 billion will be provided for every 200 hectares to procure agricultural equipment.

“A Food Brigade will also be formed to manage every 200 hectares of land. We hope this program can run successfully and deliver optimal results,” he said.

However, challenges remain, particularly regarding human resources.

Interest among young people, especially in coastal areas, to engage in agriculture is still considered low.

This lack of enthusiasm among the younger generation has become a significant obstacle to the success of the program in Sukamara.
