Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Veronica Tan emphasized the importance of providing basic health services and essential needs without discrimination.

In the ministry's statement here on Monday, she said that this can be realized through collaboration between the private sector and regional government.

She made this statement when inspecting a free cataract surgery event held at regional hospital RSUD Hanau in Seruyan District, Central Kalimantan Province on Sunday (September 28).

“I would like to greet everyone who has undergone cataract surgery made possible through the collaboration between Sinar Mas, medical professionals, and Hanau Regional General Hospital (RSUD),” she said.

She also praised the quality of medical services at RSUD Hanau.

“This hospital is of a very high standard. I hope this can become a turning point. Healthcare and basic food should be equally accessible to all residents of Central Kalimantan. The people are our priority, and government programs must truly deliver the best quality,” she stated.

The Deputy Minister added that the cataract surgery program aligns with efforts to improve public health, especially for the elderly, who are most affected by cataracts.

On the same occasion, she also stressed the importance of solidarity and compassion as the foundation for building welfare in the regions.

"I believe that we can achieve anything together, starting from compassion. Earlier, there were prayers from three religions, greetings from various cultures, even a welcoming dance. That shows a region shares the same spirit of love," Tan said.

She also expressed her commitment to supporting cross-sectoral programs involving the government, private sector, and the community to ensure that all children can enjoy their rights to health, growth, and optimal development.

“Let's support every step to ensure our children are protected, their health rights fulfilled, and empowered to grow and develop to their fullest potential,” she noted.
