Jakarta (ANTARA) - Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Masaki Yasushi expressed admiration for Indonesia’s cultural richness during his nearly two-year tenure as ambassador.

Speaking at a media briefing at the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta on Tuesday, Masaki highlighted his impressions at the end of his assignment.

“I truly admire the richness and diversity of your culture, including the food,” he said.

Throughout his service in Indonesia, Masaki traveled 15 times to various regions, including Sumatra, Java, Bali, Solo, Sulawesi, Makassar, and Papua.

He was particularly impressed by the country’s natural beauty and cultural diversity, where people coexist peacefully despite differences in ethnicity, religion, and language.

He described this harmony as one of Indonesia’s greatest strengths.

Masaki also noted Indonesia’s democratic progress, pointing to the strong public enthusiasm during the 2024 elections as evidence of the nation’s commitment to democracy.

On defense cooperation, the ambassador underlined that Japan and Indonesia share common ground in addressing regional security challenges.

He expressed hope that bilateral military cooperation would advance further.

In disaster response, he emphasized the importance of joint efforts between the two countries in mitigating natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions and floods.

“Indonesia and Japan stand united, not only in Aceh but also in preparing for natural disasters,” he remarked.

Masaki concluded by saying that his time in Indonesia was a valuable experience, allowing him to witness the richness and diversity of its people and regions.
