Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina Marine Solutions (PMSol), together with PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental (PTK) and other subsidiaries, is increasing awareness about the importance of preserving maritime ecosystems as a national heritage through the Ocean Literasea Program.

"Through Ocean Literasea, we want to teach that protecting the ocean means protecting the future," PT Pertamina Marine Solutions (PMSol) Director Dian Prama Irfani said in a statement received here on Tuesday.

The Ocean Literasea activity, he said, emphasizes PMSol’s social commitment to play an active role in education and environmental conservation.

In line with the vision of Pertamina’s Integrated Marine Logistics Subholding, marine literacy is seen as a joint movement, where industry, schools, and the community work together to preserve Indonesia’s oceans for future generations.

The program aims to instill a love of the sea in the younger generation from an early age while raising awareness of the importance of preserving maritime ecosystems as a national heritage.

In the program implemented in Semarang, Central Java, Lilik Harnadi, Head of the Marine, Coastal, and Small Islands Division of the Central Java Provincial Marine and Fisheries Service, provided training on the importance of preserving the sea.

Using a simple educational approach, he said, students are introduced to steps to protect the ocean, starting with keeping beaches clean, reducing the use of single-use plastics, and understanding the role of the ocean in supporting human life.

In addition to educational materials, the activity was enlivened with interactive sessions.

Children were invited to participate in a marine-themed coloring competition, which is expected not only to improve creativity but also to foster a sense of love and concern for the maritime environment.
