This intention was highlighted during a meeting of both parties in Jakarta on Thursday.
"We want to learn from China's rapid growth and industrialization. One of our greatest hopes is the rise of advanced science- and technology-based industries," Higher Education, Science, and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto said in a statement here on Friday.
He underlined that a country's progress is determined by industrial development that is based on research in science and technology.
Yuliarto also noted that Indonesia is prioritizing the development of energy, the automotive industry, solar panels, and nuclear energy, as well as the transition from diesel to green energy.
"The development must be carried out by taking into account the current needs of the community and industries as a basis for research," the minister added.
In the same statement, the Chairman of the IASTIC, Chen Qingquan, emphasized the importance of collaboration between Indonesia and China as two countries that are currently developing rapidly.
According to him, the integration of science, technology, policy, market, and culture is necessary to develop an industry-based nation.
He expressed hope that both China and Indonesia can make progress together and be at the forefront in navigating the constantly changing global dynamics.
At Thursday's meeting, the ministry and the IASTIC agreed that Indonesia and China must be able to develop technology and innovate on their own without depending on other parties to realize smart products, infrastructures, cities, and society.
The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology affirmed its commitment to be a bridge connecting academia, research, and industries at both national and global levels.
Through cooperation with global partners like those from China, the ministry seeks to ensure that science and technology development can bring concrete solutions for the community and bolster the nation's competitiveness amid the era of global transformation.
