Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s military (TNI) unveiled a domestically developed unmanned submarine during a rehearsal for its 80th anniversary celebration at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta on Friday.

The autonomous underwater vehicle, designated KSOT-008 and bearing the logo of state-owned shipbuilder PT PAL, was showcased alongside hundreds of other defense systems during the parade rehearsal.

“This autonomous submarine is one of the new defense systems we are showcasing,” said TNI spokesperson Maj. Gen. Freddy Ardianzah.

He noted that while other assets, such as the South Korean-made T-50i trainer jet and the warship KRI Belati-622, are also part of TNI’s modernization program, they will not be featured at the event.

The T-50i is scheduled to arrive in November 2025, while the KRI Belati-622 was recently inaugurated by the Navy Chief of Staff.

TNI’s official anniversary ceremony will take place on Sunday (October 5) at Monas. The military plans to display 1,047 land, sea, and air defense systems and deploy 133,480 personnel.

Participants will include both military members and civilians assigned to various roles —ranging from ceremonial units and combat simulation teams to parachutists, pilots, and parade contingents.

Ardianzah also confirmed that the national flag displayed at Monas was torn during Thursday’s rehearsal due to strong winds.

“The wind exceeded 20 knots, and the fabric we used wasn’t strong enough,” he said. After assessing the damage, TNI replaced the flag with a sturdier version. As a result, the Red and White flag flew properly during Friday’s final rehearsal.

“Thank God, the full-dress rehearsal went smoothly today, and the Merah Putih flag is flying proudly,” he said.

The rehearsal featured a formal ceremony, air and ground combat simulations, parachute landings by special forces, and a parade of troops and military hardware.

Ardianzah expressed confidence that the well-executed rehearsal, supported by favorable weather, will ensure a successful performance at Sunday’s main event.

He also confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto will serve as the ceremonial inspector, with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka also scheduled to attend.

Several cabinet ministers, agency heads, the national police chief, and former senior TNI officials are expected to be present at the celebration.
