Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed the strategic role of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) as the backbone of national defense amid an increasingly complex global geopolitical landscape.

He delivered the statement while leading the main ceremony marking the TNI’s 80th anniversary at the National Monument Square (Monas) in Jakarta on Sunday morning.

Addressing more than 133,000 service members, President Prabowo extended his congratulations and emphasized the TNI’s deep-rooted connection to the Indonesian people.

“The TNI was born from the people of Indonesia. It is the child of the nation, rising and falling together with the people,” he said.

He stressed that in times of global uncertainty and regional conflict, the TNI must remain steadfast in its identity as the guardian of the nation and protector of Indonesia’s sovereignty.

“The TNI is the fortress of the Republic of Indonesia, the backbone of national defense, and the guarantor of our sovereignty. It must always be ready to defend the nation and every part of its land, even at the cost of ultimate sacrifice,” Prabowo stated.

He also expressed appreciation for the TNI’s unwavering dedication, noting its consistent prioritization of national interests.

“On behalf of the state, the nation, and the government of Indonesia, I extend my deepest gratitude for the TNI’s achievements. It has always stood firm in times of crisis and placed the interests of the people first,” he said.

In closing, President Prabowo thanked the families of TNI personnel for their support.

“I want to thank the wives and children of our soldiers who patiently and faithfully support them during dangerous missions. May the Almighty continue to protect our soldiers and the extended TNI family,” he added.

The ceremony showcased the strength of the TNI’s three branches — the Army, Navy, and Air Force — with 1,047 main defense systems deployed during the parade.

The Army featured Leopard, Harimau, and Badak tanks, along with tactical vehicles such as Anoa, Maung, ATAV, and Bushmaster. Helicopters including Apache, Mi-17, Bell 412, BO-105, and Fennec also participated.

The Navy displayed amphibious combat vehicles, Howitzer artillery, field hospital units, and Atmaca long-range anti-ship missiles.

The Air Force demonstrated its capabilities with 157 aircraft, including fighter jets, transport planes, surveillance aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, helicopters, and tactical combat vehicles from the Quick Reaction Forces Command (Korpasgat).

The 80th anniversary of the TNI underscored President Prabowo’s message that the military is not only the frontline defender of the nation but also a symbol of unity, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to Indonesia’s sovereignty.
