Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa visited the Jakarta Town Hall on Tuesday to discuss economic development cooperation with Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo, including the construction of a new headquarters for Bank Jakarta.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Sadewa expressed support for the governor’s proposal to utilize state-owned land for the new Bank Jakarta building, formerly known as Bank DKI, located in the Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD), South Jakarta.

He said the project is expected to start this year and be completed within the next 15 months, noting that it could help boost economic activity and create more jobs in the capital.

“Most importantly, the central government will not have to spend any money because the project will be financed entirely by Bank Jakarta,” he said.

The minister added that Bank Jakarta holds a considerable amount of idle funds, which could be better utilized to stimulate economic growth and support development.

He also noted that the planned building would be constructed on land owned by the Ministry of Finance, with the Jakarta provincial government expected to lease the site for 50 years.

“Bank Jakarta will lease our ministry’s land for a 50-year term, and I have approved the arrangement,” Sadewa explained, adding that the central government would receive 30 percent of the profits generated by the building.

Governor Pramono confirmed that his administration had sought the Finance Ministry’s support for the project.

“We have requested approval from the Minister for the construction of Bank Jakarta’s new headquarters at the SCBD, in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance,” he said.

He added that both sides also discussed adjustments to Jakarta’s profit-sharing arrangement with the central government.

“We will comply with and adapt to the new agreement, as we believe the central government has carefully planned its steps,” Pramono remarked.
