Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia must forge its own path toward sustainability rather than copying development models from industrialized nations, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) said on Friday.

“Indonesia, like many countries in similar stages of development, cannot and should not replicate strategies designed for nations that have been industrializing for over a century,” AHY said during the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2025 in Jakarta.

“We must build our own roadmap to sustainability,” he added.

To support that goal, AHY stressed the importance of platforms like ISF, which provide a space for dialogue, idea exchange, and collaborative solution-building.

“This forum is not just a conference—it’s a platform to shape our own narrative. It’s where we contribute, not just receive, and where mutual support leads to development models that are fair, realistic, and future-ready,” he said.

AHY noted that sustainable development models, technologies, and even terminology have historically been dictated by early-industrialized countries.

However, he pointed out that the realities in developing nations differ significantly. Issues such as population growth, fiscal constraints, and basic infrastructure needs require tailored solutions.

“There is no single model or magic formula that developing nations can simply adopt. Each country must adapt based on its own context,” he said.

The event was also attended by Minister of Investment and Downstreaming and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani, and Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Anindya Novyan Bakrie.

Held under the theme “Investing for a Resilient, Sustainable and Prosperous World,” the forum brought together over 250 speakers and more than 100 business leaders and philanthropists.

The ISF 2025 aimed to foster global cooperation and innovative partnerships to accelerate the transition to a sustainable and inclusive economy.
