“This aligns with established principles in mathematics education,” Kasman Suhairi said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.
K-12 mathematics educators are teachers who instruct students in mathematics from kindergarten through 12th grade in the United States.
He advocates a teaching philosophy centered on helping students build their own understanding through reasoning and exploration.
“An approach consistent with modern mathematics education standards,” he added.
He revealed that the personalized curriculum under his guidance has proven effective, especially in resource-challenged environments.
Kasman, who is active within the Indonesian diaspora community in the United States, also stressed the urgency of strengthening STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education as a foundation for developing the competencies of future generations.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) earlier launched the National Numeracy Movement (GNN) themed “Master Numeracy, Advance the Nation” as an effort to strengthen Indonesia’s generational numeracy competencies in the global era.
Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti emphasized that numeracy — and a love of Mathematics — is not merely a subject, but a foundation for the development of various disciplines.
He described numeracy as the roots of a tree: if the roots are strong, the trunk and branches (other fields of knowledge) will grow strong as well.
Abdul Mu’ti reaffirmed that numeracy is a basic competency everyone must possess in order to develop capabilities in other scientific fields.
