Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has officially terminated the contract of Patrick Kluivert and his coaching staff after the national team failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

"The PSSI and the Indonesian National Team Coaching Team have officially agreed on the early closure of cooperation through a mutual termination mechanism," the PSSI stated on its website on Thursday.

During his tenure with the men's senior national team, Kluivert was assisted by fellow Dutchmen Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat.

"This agreement was signed by the PSSI and the Coaching Team, marking the termination of a two-year-long cooperation contract," the association added.

Kluivert's dismissal came just five days after Indonesia's 0–1 loss to Iraq in the final match of the fourth round of the Asian qualifiers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The team also lost 2–3 to Saudi Arabia in the opening fixture. With two defeats, Indonesia finished bottom of Group B, ending its World Cup campaign.

Saudi Arabia topped the group to secure a direct ticket, while Iraq advanced to the playoff round.

The termination also affects the youth coaching teams, including Gerald Vanenburg for the U-23 squad and Frank van Kempen for the U-20 side — both Dutch nationals.

"The termination of this partnership has been mutually agreed upon, considering internal dynamics and the strategic direction of the national teams' development," the PSSI statement said, adding that a full evaluation will follow.

The PSSI expressed appreciation for the coaching staff's service.

Replacing South Korean coach Shin Tae-yong in January 2025, Kluivert led Indonesia to three wins, one draw, and four losses in six World Cup qualifiers and two friendlies.

Under his leadership, Indonesia scored 11 goals and conceded 15, averaging 1.25 points per match, according to Transfermarkt.
