Jakarta (ANTARA) - Under the leadership and directives of President Prabowo Subianto, Indonesia’s creative economy has shown significant growth and made major contributions to the national economy, according to Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya.

Speaking to the press at the Friends of Creative Economy event in Jakarta on Tuesday, Harsya said that in 2025, the creative economy contributed 5.69 percent to the national gross domestic product (GDP).

He added that Indonesia exported US$12.89 billion worth of creative economy products, achieving 49 percent of the US$26.4 billion export target. The sector also created around 26.4 million jobs this year.

In the first half of 2025, the creative economy attracted Rp90.12 trillion (approximately US$5.4 billion) in investments, or 66 percent of the targeted Rp136 trillion, he continued.

“Overall, our creative economy sector has shown a very positive growth trend. We should be grateful for this progress, which reflects the President’s directives and our collective hard work,” Harsya remarked.

On the global stage, he expressed optimism that the creative economy would become a strong new engine of economic growth amid escalating geopolitical tensions and global trade competition.

“The creative economy is expanding worldwide, not only in Indonesia. This sector is making substantial contributions to the global economy through job creation and increased trade activities,” he said.

He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to helping Indonesia seize this momentum by identifying effective strategies to fully tap into the country’s vast creative potential.

Harsya explained that this objective underpins the Friends of Creative Economy event, which also serves as a prelude to the 5th World Conference on Creative Economy, to be hosted by Indonesia in 2026.

“Indonesians are inherently creative, thanks to the nation’s rich cultural heritage. The challenge now is to strengthen our position in the global creative economy market. Today’s event is designed to address exactly that,” he said.
