"We follow your struggle and admire your strength and commitment to freedom and democracy," Prabowo told Ramaphosa during a bilateral meeting at the Merdeka Palace on Wednesday.
During a working lunch, Prabowo noted that Indonesia and South Africa share many similarities as two major nations in the Southern Hemisphere, both currently members of the BRICS group.
He emphasized that relations between the two countries should continue to be strengthened in the years ahead and described South Africa as a strategic partner for Indonesia on the African continent.
Prabowo also referred to Ramaphosa as one of the region’s most respected leaders and expressed his optimism about Africa’s growing economic potential.
"Hopefully, this will mark the beginning of a stronger partnership between South Africa and Indonesia," he remarked.
President Ramaphosa, in turn, expressed appreciation for the warm state welcome extended to him in Jakarta.
He said the visit was an important milestone in enhancing South Africa’s cooperation with Indonesia and reflected the strong bilateral ties shared by both nations.
"We would like to express our gratitude for the honor bestowed upon us through this high-level state reception. We deeply appreciate it," Ramaphosa said.
President Prabowo formally welcomed Ramaphosa at the Merdeka Palace on Wednesday as part of the South African leader’s official visit to Indonesia.
The visit is seen as an important step in strengthening strategic cooperation between the two countries across various sectors.
Indonesia and South Africa have maintained strong diplomatic relations for more than three decades.
Ramaphosa and his delegation arrived earlier in the day at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta, where they were greeted with a guard of honor and a 21-gun salute.
Trade Minister Budi Santoso, Head of State Protocol Andy Rachmianto, and other officials were present to receive the South African delegation.
