"The President encourages our universities to enter the Top 100 of the QS World University Rankings. Therefore, a joint strategy and strong synergy among universities are essential," he said in a statement on Saturday.
The minister emphasized the important role of universities as national research centers and think tanks that actively contribute to finding solutions for various national challenges, including those in the industrial and economic sectors.
In this regard, he stated that universities are expected to strengthen research collaboration oriented toward solving real societal problems.
To this end, the minister encouraged universities in the country to build strategic alliances with other universities, both for research and innovation development, to create a competitive academic ecosystem.
He noted that the autonomy possessed by state universities with legal entity status offers a big opportunity to develop a sustainable funding model through partnership with industries, downstreaming of research results, and the exploration of revenue sources.
"We want universities to find it easier to collaborate and feel the benefits of the autonomy policy," he said.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology is encouraging universities to enhance research cooperation with the Indonesian diaspora in various countries, especially in scientific publication and research mentoring.
The collaboration is expected to boost the growth of national research, thereby contributing positively to global academic reputation.
The ministry is also committed to building a dynamic and collaborative higher education ecosystem by strengthening support for research cooperation, academic mobility, and international student admissions.
