Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has warned that the 214.8 tons of narcotics seized by the National Police over the past year could have endangered hundreds of millions of lives if not intercepted.

“The destruction of narcotics evidence seized by the police from October 2024 to October 2025 amounts to 214.8 tons, valued at Rp29.37 trillion,” Prabowo said during a ceremony at the National Police Headquarters on Wednesday.

He emphasized that the seizures reflect the government’s commitment on strengthening political, legal, and bureaucratic reform, including the eradication of corruption and drug abuse.

According to Prabowo, the volume of drugs seized could have affected up to 629 million people—more than twice Indonesia’s population—had they reached circulation. While the figure is symbolic, it underscores the scale of the threat posed by narcotics trafficking.

“This is a major success for law enforcement in preventing a significant threat to the nation,” he said, expressing appreciation to police officers nationwide for their dedication.

Prabowo reiterated that combating narcotics and corruption has been a top priority since the start of his administration.

“Threats to the nation come in many forms—visible, physical, military, psychological, political—and the particularly dangerous threat of narcotics,” he stated.

He added that the fight against drugs is part of a broader effort to safeguard national assets.

“Drugs destroy the nation’s future. But when I assumed the presidency, the main issue I saw was the leakage of state wealth. No development goal is achievable if we fail to control our resources,” he emphasized.
