Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - The central government will build a Sekolah Rakyat building on 6.7 hectares of land in Gumantar Village, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, with a budget of around Rp250 billion or about US$15 million.

The head of NTB’s Social Affairs Office, Nunung Trianingsih, said here on Wednesday that the school project, part of the national program outlined in Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 8, has entered the tender stage and will soon move into physical construction.

“The Sekolah Rakyat in Gumantar, North Lombok, covers 6.7 hectares. It is already in the tender process, and the construction is handled by the Ministry of Public Works, valued at roughly Rp250 billion,” she said.

Sekolah Rakyat is a flagship program initiated by the Prabowo-Gibran administration, offering free, full-boarding education for children from extremely poor and vulnerable families.

This program, covering elementary through high school levels, is an implementation of Asta Cita No. 4, which focuses on strengthening human resource development, education, and science and technology mastery.

The project will follow a multi-year system, with construction expected to continue into next year. The Public Works Ministry will carry out all physical work, while the provincial government provides land, permits, and facilitates teaching staff.

The school, located in the Gumantar Village, is designed as an integrated education complex covering all levels from elementary to senior high school. Facilities will include classrooms, laboratories, dormitories, sports fields, a cafeteria, and a prayer hall.

“Given the large area, facilities are complete with a football field, a musala, dormitories, classrooms, laboratories, and other sports facilities,” she said.

All land has been prepared and surveyed, and the recruitment of teaching staff is still ongoing.

Gumantar will be the first Sekolah Rakyat realized in NTB, with similar projects planned in Labuhan Badas, Sumbawa, and Panda, Bima, in the next phase.

Construction is expected to be completed before the next academic year, allowing all students from temporary schools to move into the new integrated facility.
