“There is Government Regulation (PP) No. 7 of 2021, which mandates that all public facilities such as terminals, stations, and rest areas must provide 30 percent of their space for MSMEs and the creative economy. This is a must,” Iskandar said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Thursday.
The regulation, officially titled Government Regulation No. 7 of 2021 on the Ease, Protection, and Empowerment of Cooperatives and MSMEs, requires public facility operators to reserve areas for small businesses.
Article 67 of the regulation also stipulates that rental fees for MSMEs occupying public facility spaces must not exceed 30 percent of commercial rent prices.
Iskandar said his ministry will conduct unannounced inspections to ensure compliance with the regulation. He reminded public facility managers to comply with the regulation.
“If this is not implemented, there will be consequences,” he stated.
The coordinating minister added that PP No. 7/2021 is part of the government’s broader effort to protect and empower MSMEs, enabling them to grow and move up to higher business levels.
The initiative also aims to strengthen MSMEs’ contribution to the national economy, which currently accounts for around 60 percent of Indonesia’s gross domestic product (GDP).
Empowering MSMEs remains one of the ministry’s main priorities, particularly to create jobs, expand business access, and boost community-based economic growth as part of efforts to reduce poverty.
