“Strong competencies will be the key to competitiveness in the job market,” he said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Friday.
Yassierli emphasized that industries increasingly demand workers who possess both competencies and professional certifications, as well as foreign language proficiency.
He noted that the government continues to prepare a competent and adaptive workforce through Competency-Based Training (PBK) and Project-Based Learning (PBL) programs at the Ministry’s Vocational and Productivity Training Centers (BPVP).
Yassierli explained that PBL is a new initiative under his leadership, designed to train participants not only in technical skills but also in creative thinking and problem-solving.
“It is called Project-Based Learning because participants are trained to become problem solvers,” he added.
The minister, who is also a professor at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), explained that through this approach, trainees work on real-world projects — such as smart building or smart farming initiatives — where they can plan, execute, and offer solutions directly to companies.
Yassierli expressed hope that this method enables graduates of vocational training programs to not only enter the workforce but also develop innovations and create new job opportunities.
“We want graduates not just to wait for job offers but to offer their own services — for example, saying to companies, ‘I can automate your building operations,’ or other processes,” he stated.
