Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) Andi Amran Sulaiman has deployed a special team to help lower rice prices in 51 districts where prices have exceeded the government’s retail price ceiling.

Speaking to the press here on Monday, Sulaiman said the team was established to ensure that rice prices remain in line with the price ceiling while maintaining the people’s purchasing power.

“Since there are 51 regions, we are deploying 51 individuals to those districts,” he said, without specifying the exact locations targeted by the initiative.

The team will carry out monitoring, mentoring, and rapid market interventions. It will also coordinate with regional trade offices and the regional police to strengthen supervision of rice distribution.

Sulaiman added that Bapanas is working closely with state-owned logistics company Bulog to monitor prices and ensure smooth and accurate rice distribution across the country.

Through these efforts, Bapanas aims to restore rice price stability nationwide, ensuring that the public can access rice at reasonable and affordable prices.

In addition, the government will continue implementing the Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) Program as part of national market operations designed to lower rice prices and strengthen the country’s food reserves.

The government has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the SPHP program for as long as necessary to preserve supply balance, price stability, and national food security.

Indonesia continues to pursue food self-sufficiency, particularly for rice, which remains the main staple for the majority of the population.

According to the latest data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the country’s rice production is projected to reach 34.77 million tons in 2025, an increase of 13.54 percent compared to 2024.
