Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education expressed its concern and readiness to assist in the recovery process following the explosion at Jakarta 72 High School in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.

The ministry's Head of the Communications and Public Relations Bureau, Anang Ristanto, said his office has coordinated with the school, the Education Service, and security forces, who are currently investigating the cause of the incident.

"We express our deep concern over the explosion that occurred at Jakarta 72 High School. Our main focus is ensuring the safety of all school members, including carrying out rapid evacuation and treatment of victims, as well as ensuring optimal health services," he spoke to ANTARA on Friday.

According to Ristanto, the school area has been secured and temporarily closed to ensure safety.

His office will also support the rehabilitation of affected facilities for the continuity of education activities at the school.

Furthermore, the ministry will provide psychological support services for students, teachers, and other school members to help maintain their mental and emotional well-being.

"We appreciate the swift action taken by all parties in the initial response on the ground," he lauded.

Ristanto also reminded the public to remain calm, avoid sharing unverified information, and wait for official statements from the authorities.

He emphasized the ministry's commitment to maintaining the security, safety, and continuity of educational activities, and to ensuring full support for the school and the victims during the recovery process.

The Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat) stated that the explosion at the school originated from a speaker at the scene.

"We received information about the explosion from witness Zulfikar at 12:09 local time," according to a Fire and Rescue Command Center official in Jakarta on Friday.

He said officers deployed two fire trucks with 10 personnel to extinguish the fire at the scene.
