Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) informed that private gas station operator, BP AKR, has ordered another 100 thousand barrels of fuel from Pertamina Patra Niaga.

"BP AKR will order another 100 thousand barrels in two weeks, in the third week of November," the ministry's Director General of Oil and Gas, Laode Sulaeman, said on Friday.

BP made this additional order after purchasing the first 100 thousand barrels of base fuel from Pertamina Patra Niaga at the end of October 2025.

Regarding the import quota for private gas station operators in 2026, Sulaeman stated that the government may reinstate the 10 percent additional quota scheme.

Currently, the government has received data from private companies but has not yet determined the total quota allocation, he added.

Fuel shortages at several private gas stations, including BP, have persisted since mid-August 2025.

Numerous negotiations have taken place between private gas station operators, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and state-owned oil company Pertamina.

Earlier, ESDM Minister Bahlil Lahadalia instructed private gas station operators to utilize Pertamina’s import quota to restore fuel stocks at their outlets.

After nearly two months of negotiations, fuel stocks at BP gas stations are now starting to recover.

Besides BP, PT Vivo Energy Indonesia (Vivo) is also nearing an agreement to purchase around 100 thousand barrels of fuel from Pertamina Patra Niaga, Sulaeman added.

Vivo gas stations have also been facing fuel shortages, following similar issues experienced by Shell stations since mid-August.

On September 26, Pertamina Patra Niaga signed a base fuel sales agreement with Vivo.

The agreement included Vivo’s commitment to purchase 40 thousand barrels of base fuel from the 100 thousand barrels imported by Pertamina Patra Niaga.

However, Vivo later canceled the deal after laboratory tests detected approximately 3.5 percent ethanol content in the base fuel.

Meanwhile, negotiations with Shell are still ongoing, with Sulaeman noting that he plans to meet Shell representatives soon to discuss the potential fuel supply agreement.
