Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Arifah Fauzi, said her office is prioritizing the safety and recovery of students injured in an explosion at State Senior High School (SMAN) 72 in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.

“We express deep concern over this incident because the victims are children in a school environment, which should be safe. Schools are not just places of learning but also safe spaces for children’s growth and development,” Fauzi said Saturday.

The ministry has coordinated with the Jakarta Provincial Office of Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Control, the PPA Technical Implementation Unit, and a network of psychologists to provide psychosocial support for traumatized students.

Fauzi confirmed that the medical and information needs of victims’ families are being addressed promptly.

“We continue to coordinate with the Jakarta Education Office, security forces, and school officials to ensure handling focused on the best interests of children,” she added.

The minister said the incident underscores the urgent need for school safety and child protection.

She reaffirmed her office’s commitment to Child-Friendly Schools, anti-bullying systems, and early detection of psychological distress and risky behaviors among students.

“No tolerance for any threat that endangers children. Local governments, schools, and communities must strengthen vigilance and ensure child protection systems are enforced,” Fauzi stressed.

Beyond medical treatment, psychological recovery remains a priority. Children who witnessed or experienced the blast face a high risk of prolonged anxiety and fear.

Fauzi urged schools and families to create supportive spaces where children feel safe and accepted.

“Women play a central role in recovery. Mothers, teachers, and psychologists are key in supporting children through trauma. When women help maintain emotional well-being, the resilience of families and schools is strengthened. Safe schools and protected children are the foundation of a strong Indonesia,” she added.
