Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the National Library (Perpusnas) E. Aminudin Aziz said the Community Literacy Volunteers (Relima) movement, driven by enthusiasm, sincerity, and consistency, strengthens literacy as a foundation for national development.

“The spirit of Relima volunteers continues to grow. They work sincerely without complaint, despite limited incentives. Their persistence in remaining active, even when facing rejection, drives the literacy movement forward,” he said in a statement here on Tuesday.

Aziz made the remarks at the opening of the Relima peer learning meeting in Bogor, West Java.

He emphasized that although literacy activists across regions face various challenges, they share a common goal of building a literate society for the nation’s progress.

“We all share the same purpose - to create a literate society as the foundation of a developed nation,” he stated.

According to him, Relima, initiated at the national level, represents a significant movement that complements other literacy initiatives. The program is supported by regional facilitators who have long been active in literacy efforts.

“The issue lies in the lack of communication between Relima and regional facilitators, leading to the misconception that Relima replaces the collaboration forum between Perpusnas and the Social Inclusion-Based Library Transformation Program (TPBIS). In fact, both should work in synergy,” he explained.

Perpusnas remains committed to expanding Relima’s reach. Currently, 180 Relima groups operate in 178 districts and cities across 33 provinces. Next year, the number is expected to increase to 350.

He called on all Relima members to strengthen communication and collaboration, reminding them that major changes often begin with small collective steps carried out with enthusiasm, sincerity, and consistency.

The 2025 Relima peer learning program runs from November 10 to 13, 2025.
