Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is positioning itself as a global hub for carbon markets by offering high-quality carbon credits that support international climate goals and boost local prosperity, a senior official said.

Speaking at the Indonesia Pavilion at the 2025 UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, on Tuesday, Deputy Minister of Forestry Rohmat Marzuki said Indonesia's forests are vital living reservoirs that sustain biodiversity, water, energy, and communities nationwide.

"The Ministry of Forestry is preparing four derivative regulations to strengthen carbon market governance," he said during a dialogue titled "Accelerating Climate Action through Inclusive and Integrated National Policies."

Marzuki said Presidential Regulation No. 110 of 2025 on Carbon Economic Value marks an important milestone affirming Indonesia's strategic role as a provider of high-integrity carbon credits.

He added that the regulation ensures carbon market benefits not only support national climate targets but also provide tangible gains to communities through social forestry and land rehabilitation programs.

"Communities that protect and manage forests deserve to earn income from their conservation efforts," he emphasized.

To expand financial access, the ministry, in collaboration with the Financial Services Authority (OJK), has incorporated social forestry into the National Green Taxonomy.

By 2025, a total of 8.4 million hectares have been allocated for social forestry, benefiting 1.4 million households and creating 5.6 million green jobs.

In addition, the Indigenous Forest Task Force has facilitated the recognition of 70,688 hectares of customary forests, with a target of reaching 1.4 million hectares by 2029.
