"We are optimistic that Indonesia, with strong investments and well-targeted policies, will break into the global top four in the near future," said Taufiek Bawazier, the ministry's Director General of Chemical, Pharmaceutical, and Textile Industries, in a statement cited here on Tuesday.
He noted that Indonesia currently ranks fifth worldwide, with an annual production capacity of 625 million square meters of ceramics, alongside a consistently favorable growth trend.
In the second quarter of 2025, the nation’s cement, ceramics, and non-metallic mineral processing sub-sector grew by 10.07 percent year-on-year, making it the top performer in non-oil and gas manufacturing.
Between 2020 and 2024, investment realization in the ceramic sector reached Rp20.3 trillion (US$1.2 billion), empowering around 10 thousand workers. Cumulatively, the sector has attracted Rp224 trillion (around US$13.5 billion) in total investment, with about 40 thousand jobs projected across its production chain.
"We have a very promising prospect in the national ceramics industry, primarily supported by growth in infrastructure, property, and construction projects," Bawazier remarked.
He added that the Industry Ministry is developing strategic industrial zones in Batang, Kendal, and Semarang, Central Java—all connected to ports, toll roads, and adequate gas networks—to help realize Indonesia’s goal of joining the world’s top four ceramic producers.
The government is also offering various fiscal and non-fiscal incentives to both domestic and foreign investors seeking to place capital in these areas, he noted.
Bawazier further highlighted the 32nd World Ceramic Tiles Forum 2025, organized by the Association of Indonesian Ceramic Industries (Asaki) in Yogyakarta on Monday (November 10), as a platform to showcase Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global ceramics market.
Asaki Chair Edy Sutanto underlined that national production utilization reached 72.5 percent from January to October 2025, up from 71 percent in the first half of the year, reflecting an improving trend compared to 2024.
