Head of Marine and Fisheries Products Quality Control and Supervision Agency, Ishartini, said the approval marks an important step in accelerating Cs-137-free certification services for Indonesian shrimp exports to the US.
“These laboratories have the capacity and competence to carry out Cs-137 testing on shrimp to support Cs-137-free certification services,” Ishartini stated in an official statement issued by the ministry here on Thursday.
She noted that Cs-137-free testing for shrimp, which has become a mandatory requirement for exports to the US, can now be conducted at four laboratories: the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (Bapeten), ALYPZ, and SGS Vietnam.
Ishartini explained that Indonesian shrimp exports to the US, particularly from Java and Lampung, are now required to include a health certificate (HC) confirming the products are free from Cs-137.
The regulation has been effective since October 31, 2025.
She further emphasized that the issuance of HC certificates can only be carried out by the Marine and Fisheries Products Quality Control and Supervision Agency as the competent authority (CA) recognized by the FDA.
The certification process involves scanning and testing for Cs-137 contamination, validated by Bapeten and BRIN as nuclear authorities.
Ishartini added that KKP continues to coordinate with the FDA and domestic institutions such as BRIN, Bapeten, Customs, and other ministries and agencies to ensure optimal service in Cs-137-free certification.
These efforts are expected to enhance export capacity while strengthening the acceptance of Indonesian shrimp products in the US market.
