“Most of this cooking oil will be distributed by food SOEs such as Bulog and ID FOOD,” he said in Bogor District, West Java, on Friday.
Santoso stated that his ministry is preparing a regulation to strengthen Minyakita distribution management. He said the draft has been finalized and is now awaiting harmonization.
He noted that the upcoming rule will revise Trade Minister’s Regulation No. 18 of 2024 on packaged palm cooking oil and the governance of people’s cooking oil.
The Trade Ministry’s Director of Domestic Market Development, Nawandaru Dwi Putra, confirmed that discussions on the regulatory amendment have concluded at the ministerial level.
He said the ministry previously held public hearings to gather input from the public, particularly academics, before the draft moves into the harmonization stage at the Ministry of Law.
Putra explained that the harmonization process will involve related ministries and agencies reviewing each provision comprehensively.
He detailed that the new Permendag emphasizes five main points, starting with the involvement of SOEs in Minyakita distribution to improve availability.
Second, the regulation requires stakeholders to intensify efforts to ensure Minyakita is prioritized for traditional markets so the public can access affordable, good-quality cooking oil.
Third, the government envisions the regulation as a tool to support affordable market operations, food assistance programs, and cooperatives established under the Red and White Village Cooperatives scheme.
Fourth, the government underscores its commitment to improving the accuracy of incentive disbursement for companies producing or distributing Minyakita under the domestic market obligation to ensure the product reaches even remote communities.
Finally, the new regulation is expected to reinforce oversight and strengthen sanctions against parties whose violations disrupt supply and pricing stability.
