Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Trade has confirmed that staple food prices across several regions remain stable ahead of the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays.

Direct monitoring in multiple cities has shown no significant price fluctuations.

Trade Minister Budi Santoso said his recent visits to Padang, Bandung, and earlier to Surabaya indicated that overall prices were under control.

“Yesterday I went to Padang and Bandung, and earlier to Surabaya. Prices there looked good,” he said here on Friday.

The ministry continues to monitor strategic commodities in real-time through the Market and Basic Necessities Monitoring System (SP2KP).

As the holiday period approaches, key commodities under close observation include chili, chicken, and eggs.

Budi stressed that weather conditions remain the primary challenge, particularly for chili production, which is vulnerable to heavy rainfall.

“Ahead of Christmas and New Year, chili is usually what we need to anticipate. We continue coordinating on chili supplies. The issue is actually the weather because it keeps raining, not the holiday season itself,” he explained.

The ministry will strengthen coordination with three chili farmer associations to maintain supply.

Communication is also carried out through the Directorate General of Domestic Trade to monitor availability at both producer and distributor levels.

“For now there is no price surge, hopefully, it stays that way. We are entering December soon, so we will continue anticipating,” Budi said.
