"Several times, disputes have escalated to physical violence and inter-village fights due to these boundaries," the ministry's Secretary General Tomsi Tohir said at a coordination meeting on village boundary confirmation with regional governments here on Friday.
He noted that, to date, village boundary confirmation has only reached about 14.4 percent, thereby requiring full support from regional governments to accelerate its completion.
Tohir emphasized the importance of the regional governments' commitment not only to meet targets but also to exceed them as a form of shared responsibility.
He also warned that if they follow the current rate, the increase in achievement over the next five years is projected to be only around six to seven percent, meaning the national achievement figure would only reach about 21 percent in the next five years.
To boost the acceleration, he urged regional governments to prioritize villages without boundary disputes so that the administrative process can be completed immediately.
Meanwhile, villages still facing disputes can be handled gradually with a specific approach.
"For those where the boundaries are clear and have already been agreed upon by all parties, the acceleration of the administrative process is very much hoped for," he remarked.
He expressed hope that Friday's dissemination of information and coordination meeting can become a momentum for all parties to strengthen their shared commitment to completing the village boundary confirmation.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning, is targeting the completion of village boundary confirmation in 5,000 villages by 2029.
