Padang, West Sumatra (ANTARA) - A joint rescue team continued searching several areas in Agam, West Sumatra, to find victims believed to have been swept away by a flash flood in Malalak Subdistrict.

Two men were found dead and three injured survivors were taken to a nearby hospital for intensive treatment, according to Tomi, a member of the team. He said they also evacuated two elderly residents trapped by the flood.

He added that personnel from multiple agencies were still conducting search operations for those feared carried away by floodwaters, while also assisting residents trapped in their homes.

Nova, a Malalak resident, said the incident occurred on Wednesday, November 26, at around 3:45 p.m. local time, when she and her family were inside their home.

"We were all at home when it happened. Fortunately, we survived, although debris from the flash flood hit our house," she said.

She described widespread destruction after the flood, with collapsed houses and large amounts of wood, rocks, and mud covering the settlement area.

West Sumatra Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) spokesperson Ilham Wahab said that as of Thursday afternoon, three fatalities had been recorded in the subdistrict.

"There are three confirmed dead and two still missing. The numbers are still temporary and may change as the search continues," he said.

Acting head of Agam BPBD Rahmat Lasmono said around 135 families in Malalak had been displaced by the flash flood.
