Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA) - Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf has declared a state of emergency in response to widespread floods and landslides affecting nearly all areas of Aceh in recent days, and to speed up evacuation efforts.

“Today, I declare a state of emergency for hydrometeorological disasters in Aceh,” Manaf said here on Thursday.

The emergency declaration aims to expedite logistics mobilization, evacuation efforts, and inter-agency support to manage the widespread disaster across the province.

He made the announcement after attending a plenary session of the Aceh House of Representatives (DPRA) concerning the 2025 Aceh Regional Budget (APBA) bill.

The emergency status will be in effect for 14 days, from November 28 to December 11, 2025.

Manaf emphasized that the Aceh government has already distributed emergency aid to several districts and cities, but the situation on the ground remains increasingly complex.

“We confirm that the Aceh government, has provided assistance for disaster handling,” he stated.

The governor also explained that transportation access has been disrupted in several areas, including the collapse of a bridge along the Banda Aceh-Medan (North Sumatra) national road, hampering aid distribution and personnel deployment.

“We request that the Aceh Police Chief provide helicopters to reach flood-isolated areas,” he said.

Aceh has experienced a week of heavy, prolonged rainfall. According to the latest report from the Aceh Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBA), floods have inundated 20 of 23 districts and cities in the province.

In addition to flooding homes and roads, the disasters have submerged agricultural land, cut off electricity due to fallen transmission poles, and caused structural damage.

As of November 27, the hydrometeorological disasters have claimed 13 lives.
