The plan was conveyed by President Prabowo during a meeting with Queen Máxima of the Netherlands at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.
“President Prabowo Subianto requested the establishment of a national council for financial health to complement the National Council for Financial Inclusion,” Hartarto said during a press conference at the Presidential Palace complex.
He explained that the council will involve various stakeholders and will be responsible for preparing open financial data.
Hartarto emphasized the need for continuous education on financial literacy and the importance of encouraging open data, not only for the banking sector but also for bank customers.
“This relates to awareness, including digital IDs, knowledge sharing, and strengthening the insurance sector,” he added.
Hartarto also stated that President Prabowo praised Queen Máxima’s leadership in promoting financial inclusion and financial health globally, including in Indonesia.
During the meeting, President Prabowo observed a presentation on the progress of financial inclusion and literacy in Indonesia, including efforts to ensure that 88.7 million households have bank accounts to improve the effectiveness of aid distribution and expand access to financial services.
The minister reported that Indonesia’s national financial inclusion rate has reached 92.7 percent, while the financial literacy rate stands at 66.64 percent.
“However, the literacy rate of 66.64 percent is already higher than the average financial literacy rate of OECD countries,” he said.
President Prabowo received Queen Máxima at the Merdeka Palace on Thursday as part of her visit to Indonesia from November 24 to 27, 2025, in her capacity as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health (UNSGSA).
Earlier, Queen Máxima visited a garment factory in Sragen District, Central Java, and the Laweyan Batik Village in Solo, Central Java, on Tuesday (November 25), where she discussed financial health initiatives.
