"He (Al-Issa) said that under President Prabowo's leadership, Indonesia is becoming a very influential country both in the Islamic world and in broader global affairs," Simanjuntak told the press at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.
Speaking after accompanying Prabowo to a meeting with Al-Issa, he noted that the MWL leader used his visit to outline several points regarding the president’s contributions to strengthening Indonesia’s foothold on the global stage.
The deputy minister said Al-Issa praised Indonesia for its role in efforts to restore peace in Gaza, efforts he believes have attracted attention from both Muslim and Western countries.
He added that the secretary-general expressed hope that under President Prabowo’s leadership, Indonesia will emerge as a key actor capable of bringing peace and progress to Islamic communities around the world.
"It should be noted that President Prabowo's role and leadership have become highly influential these days," Simanjuntak affirmed.
Earlier, Secretary-General Al-Issa stated that he regards Indonesia as the best role model for Muslim countries in fostering harmony within a highly heterogeneous society defined by religious, ethnic, and cultural diversity.
"Indonesia is a very inspiring role model for Islamic nations, owing to its ability to maintain concord amid a high level of diversity in religion and ethnicity," he pointed out.
He also highlighted that Indonesia and the MWL can play an important role in promoting a moderate perspective of Islamic teachings and values while fostering stronger solidarity among Muslims worldwide.
Such synergy, he said, is essential in echoing Islam’s peaceful messages to the international community.
During the visit, Al-Issa also extended his condolences over the recent major floods and landslides that affected parts of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
