Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto on Sunday inspected the condition of evacuees and the emergency kitchen operated by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) together with displaced residents in Kayee Jato hamlet, Balee Panah District, Bireuen Regency, Aceh.

At the evacuation post, President Prabowo tasted the lunch prepared by soldiers from the Iskandar Muda Regional Military Command, volunteers, and displaced women at the emergency public kitchen.

The lunch menu he sampled consisted of white rice, fried mackerel tuna with balado seasoning, and stir-fried cabbage with carrots and sliced chili.

President Prabowo appeared to enjoy the meal, taking several spoonfuls and nearly finishing the plate served to him. “The menu is tuna,” he told reporters when asked about the food at the evacuation site, which is located 220 km from the provincial capital.

More than 530 evacuees are currently staying in tents at the Kayee Jato post after their homes were swept away or damaged by flash floods on November 25.

The Teupin Mane River, located not far from the evacuation post, is still flowing rapidly as the Bireuen area has continued to experience rainfall over the past few days.

After inspecting the public kitchen, President Prabowo continued his visit to other areas, including health facilities, sanitation units, and clean water facilities that operate daily to meet the basic needs of evacuees.

He also greeted evacuees one by one as they sat in rows waiting for the president to approach them. Some evacuees, including a woman who shared her concerns directly, were moved to tears. President Prabowo placed a hand on their shoulders to comfort them.

“Please be patient, patient,” President Prabowo said.

During his meeting with the evacuees in Bireuen, the President assured them that the government continues to send aid to disaster-affected areas and that road access will be restored soon, along with electricity and fuel supply.

He added that recovery and rehabilitation efforts are being accelerated so that evacuees can return home safely.
