“A decision will be made in the middle of the month. Rosneft is currently in discussions with Pertamina,” Lahadalia told reporters in Jakarta on Monday.
Pertamina and Rosneft are in the Final Investment Decision (FID) stage, which will determine whether the multi-billion-dollar refinery project in East Java proceeds as planned or if alternative strategies will be considered.
Pertamina President Director Simon Aloysius Mantiri previously confirmed that the company remains committed to partnering with Rosneft despite U.S. sanctions imposed on the Russian energy giant.
On October 22, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced sanctions against Rosneft and Lukoil, citing Russia’s ongoing military actions and calling for an “immediate ceasefire.” He warned that Washington was prepared to impose further measures if necessary.
Russia has dismissed the sanctions as ineffective.
A Russian envoy said the restrictions — the first imposed during President Donald Trump’s second term — would not significantly impact Moscow but could drive up gasoline prices in the United States.
President Vladimir Putin has reiterated that Russia will not bow to external pressure.
