Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK) unveiled a Financial Literacy Guide for people with disabilities on Monday, in collaboration with the National Disability Commission, Ministry of Social Affairs, and National Development Planning Agency.

OJK Executive for Market Conduct, Education, and Consumer Protection Friderica Widyasari Dewi said the guide follows last year’s “Equal and Empowered Disability” initiative, aiming to expand inclusive financial education nationwide.

The regulator has issued rules mandating equal access for people with disabilities, including POJK 22/2023 on consumer protection and POJK 3/2023 on financial literacy and inclusion programs in the financial sector.

OJK’s “Smart Financial Movement” program (Gencarkan) prioritizes ten target groups, including people with disabilities, offering financial education down to regional levels with monitoring and evaluation for program effectiveness.

Nationwide, 98 percent of Indonesia has received literacy education programs, including disability-focused initiatives.

About 63,000 individuals have participated in Gencarkan programs, learning financial concepts and ways to generate economic value through disability-related content creation.

The guide will include Braille for visually impaired users, audiovisual material for the hearing impaired, and other accessible formats, ensuring usability for all disability groups.

Dante Rigmalia, chairman of the National Disability Commission, praised OJK for fulfilling the 2016 Disability Law mandate guaranteeing equal banking and non-banking service access for people with disabilities.

“The guide empowers people with disabilities to access financial services according to their conditions, ensuring equality with other citizens,” Dante said, emphasizing that programs focus on skill development rather than charity-based support.

He added that OJK’s initiatives, including literacy and training programs, have helped the disability community become economically independent, rather than relying on handouts.

The launch coincides with International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025, reinforcing OJK’s commitment to inclusive finance and equitable access to financial services for all Indonesians, regardless of ability.

Friderica said the regulator will continue enhancing the guide and programs, aiming to integrate disability-inclusive financial education into mainstream financial literacy efforts across Indonesia.
