Jakarta (ANTARA) - Manpower Minister Yassierli stated that his ministry is preparing to deploy experts serving as instructors from its job training centers (BLKs) to support disaster recovery efforts in flood- and landslide-affected provinces in Sumatra.

"We are preparing volunteers from the Ministry of Manpower. They are instructors who will be deployed during the recovery period to help restore facilities and infrastructure," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

He explained that the BLK instructors include experts in mechanical, electrical, and automotive repair, whose skills are expected to accelerate recovery in areas impacted by the recent flash floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

"We are formulating the best scheme to involve them as volunteers under the Manpower Ministry," he added.

The minister also confirmed that the ministry has been monitoring BLKs affected by the disaster in the three provinces.

He noted that Deputy Minister of Manpower Afriansyah Noor conducted monitoring activities in North Sumatra. In addition, the ministry has initiated fundraising efforts to support affected residents.

Severe floods and landslides struck Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra in late November 2025 following intense rainfall.

According to data from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), as of December 9, the death toll had reached 962, while 291 people remained missing.

The data also showed that 5,000 residents were injured, with conditions ranging from minor to severe.

BNPB further reported that the floods and landslides affected around 157 thousand houses, 192 health facilities, 534 educational facilities, 425 places of worship, 234 office buildings, and 497 bridges across 52 districts and cities.
