Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) said that infrastructure development is essential to advancing Indonesia’s marine and fisheries sector.

He emphasized that as a maritime nation, Indonesia possesses abundant ocean resources that must be protected and managed so their benefits can be fully realized by the public.

“Infrastructure is the backbone of national development. The marine and fisheries sector holds tremendous potential, but it all requires strong and integrated infrastructure,” AHY said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

He noted that the maritime, marine, and fisheries sector contributed 7.9 percent to Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product in 2024 and highlighted the sector’s significant potential for renewable energy development.

“We want our energy transition to increasingly favor green and clean energy. Under Rencana Usaha Penyediaan Tenaga Listrik (RUPTL) 2025–2034, Indonesia will add 69.5 GW of national power capacity over the next ten years, with 70 percent coming from renewable energy,” he said.

AHY also pointed to the Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih program as a strategic initiative focused on ecosystem development, infrastructure upgrades, institutional strengthening, and improved access to financing.

“We must build an efficient supply chain, modernize shipyards, ensure maritime connectivity, and open access to global markets. Our fishermen must become more prosperous,” he said.

He expressed optimism that the maritime sector’s contribution to national GDP could rise to 12.5 percent by 2045, in line with RPJMN target.

AHY acknowledged that achieving these goals will be challenging but said they can be met through strong orchestration, integration, and cross-sector collaboration.

“Let us continue to strengthen synergy and collaboration across all sectors. I stand ready to work with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries to advance Indonesia’s marine and fisheries sector. Finally, I would like to wish everyone a happy Nusantara Day, celebrated on December 13, 2025,” he said.
