In a statement cited in Jakarta on Monday, Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Roeslani pointed out that Indonesia has been globally recognized as a powerhouse of various valuable, strategic commodities, most notably nickel and palm oil.
“It is these resources that position our country at the core of the global energy transition agenda,” he affirmed.
Roeslani has repeatedly echoed this sentiment, including when he shared his views on the book Indonesia Naik Kelas (lit. Indonesia Ascending), authored by Dany Amrul Ichdan, vice president director of the state-run mining holding MIND ID.
He noted the book as a literary work outlining a strategic roadmap for Indonesia to achieve eight-percent economic growth, aligning with the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
The minister also emphasized that Indonesia has emerged as Southeast Asia’s economic giant, with its economic growth rate hovering steadily above five percent amid increasingly complex global challenges.
He attributed this favorable trend to the government’s on-point growth direction, which designates downstreaming of strategic natural resources as the foundation of Indonesia’s economic sovereignty and value chains.
Between January and September 2025, he continued, the downstream sector attracted Rp431 trillion (approx. US$26 billion) in investment, accounting for over 30 percent of national investment realization.
Also serving as CEO of the investment management agency Danantara, Roeslani underlined Indonesia’s need for investments worth US$815 billion to lift economic growth to eight percent over the next five years.
He highlighted that achieving the target requires structural transformation, prompting the government to draw high-quality investments to boost productivity, spur technology transfers, and strengthen domestic value chains.
“We are also pushing fiscal reform and taxation optimization, utilizing taxes as incentives to nurture innovation and support the green transition,” he stated.
