Penajam Paser Utara (ANTARA) - The Nusantara Capital City (IKN) authority is inspecting food at community activity hubs in the IKN area of Sepaku, North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan, to ensure food safety and suitability for consumption.

"Direct inspections at various food distribution facilities ensure all products sold meet food safety standards," said P. Setia Lenggono, an official of the IKN Authority, in Sepaku, North Penajam Paser, on Monday.

He continued, adding that in addition to protecting the local community, the inspections are being conducted in line with the potential increase in visitor numbers and tourism activities in the IKN, particularly during the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year holidays.

Food inspection is an ongoing priority, particularly during religious holidays. The IKN Authority is committed to protecting public health, particularly in preparation for major holidays like Christmas and New Year.

These activities are part of preventing the circulation of food unfit for consumption (TMK), such as damaged, illegal, expired, or potentially health-risk products, Lenggono said.

The authority is tightening food quality monitoring in collaboration with the Balikpapan City Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM).

Food inspections at the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) are expected to continue, said Gerson Pararak, Head of the Balikpapan City BPOM, including pest control and routine inspections of shelves and food products for sale.

With increasingly intensive monitoring, the IKN Authority ensures that food safety is part of the foundation of a livable, safe, and internationally standardized future city for all residents and visitors to the IKN.
