Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto affirmed that Indonesia has adequate financial capability to fund disaster response, thanks to budget efficiency policies implemented across ministries and agencies, reducing wasteful use of the state budget.

Speaking at the Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, he highlighted that the budget efficiency policy was started early in his administration and has successfully saved hundreds of trillions of rupiah.

He reiterated that the budget for disaster management has been prepared because the nation's funds are in a secure condition.

With its fiscal capability, the government is moving swiftly in distributing aid to the disaster-hit regions.

President Prabowo earlier instructed the disbursement of the tactical operational fund of Rp20 billion (around US$1.19 million) to each province affected by recent floods and landslides in Sumatra, as well as Rp4 billion to each affected district and city in the region.

"Three days after I gave the instruction, the funds had already been received by all districts," he remarked.

Devastating floods and landslides struck three provinces of Sumatra, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, in late November 2025 following high-intensity rainfall.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) data showed that as of December 15, the death toll from the disasters had reached 1,030, while 206 people were still missing.

The disasters damaged at least 186 thousand houses, 145 bridges, and 434 places of worship across 52 districts and cities in the three provinces.

Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono earlier stated that, based on initial estimations, restoring the damaged infrastructure in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra will require Rp51 trillion (around US$3.05 billion).
