Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Commission on the Acceleration of Reform within the National Police (Polri) is set to convene to address concerns regarding the extensive assignment of active police officers to civilian government institutions.

Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra shared this update, citing Polri Regulation (Perpol) No. 10 of 2025, which allows officers to hold positions in 17 ministries and state agencies.

"The commission will organize a meeting to follow up on this issue at the State Secretariat Building," he told the press in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He assured the public that the 10-member commission will consider all input, including the recent Constitutional Court (MK) ruling that requires active police officers assigned to government posts to resign or retire.

Mahendra noted that he is aware of the views expressed by commission chair Jimly Asshiddiqie and member Mahfud MD. As the government’s representative on the commission, he stated that he could not yet provide a definitive stance on the regulation.

He added that he must first consult with several institutions, including the Ministry of State Secretariat, the Ministry of Law, and the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs, before formalizing his view. He reiterated that the commission is tasked with drafting recommendations on Polri reform for President Prabowo Subianto.

"Our duty includes providing recommendations on matters related to the police structure, while the authority to decide on revisions to relevant laws rests with the president," he pointed out.

On December 13, Commissioner Mahfud—who served as coordinating minister for political, legal, and security affairs under the previous administration—emphasized that Perpol No. 10 of 2025 contradicts MK Decision No. 114/PUU-XXIII/2025. He argued that the regulation is fundamentally inconsistent with Law No. 2 of 2002 on Polri and Law No. 20 of 2023 on Civil Servants.

"In short, the Perpol lacks legal and constitutional foundations," Mahfud said.
