"It turns out we are capable of overcoming this together. You are not alone. Every single day, we are thinking of ways to improve the situation," he told the evacuees during his visit on Thursday.
He noted that the situation has begun to improve and expressed satisfaction upon seeing the construction of temporary housing underway.
"I am pleased to see that the construction of temporary houses is already underway and could be completed within a month. This way, none of you will have to live in tents anymore," Prabowo remarked.
Salareh Aia is one of two villages in Agam District that were severely hit by flash floods on November 25, 2025. The other heavily impacted village is East Salareh Aia.
The residential areas in these two villages, situated between rice fields and surrounded by palm oil plantations, were nearly leveled by the floods, which killed more than 100 residents in Salareh Aia.
On Thursday morning, President Prabowo, accompanied by several ministers, visited evacuees in Salareh Aia to check on their condition.
Upon his arrival at the evacuation center, the president received a report on the construction of temporary housing carried out by personnel of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).
During his visit, President Prabowo also checked trauma healing and public kitchen services provided for affected residents.
West Sumatra is among the three provinces on Sumatra hit by devastating floods and landslides in late November.
According to data from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the disasters had claimed 244 lives in West Sumatra as of December 18, including 184 residents of Agam District.
