“Aceh’s electricity system has recovered. All substations are operating normally, supported by generators and transmission lines that are back in operation. This forms an important foundation to ensure stable electricity distribution to residents,” PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said in a written statement on Sunday.
After successfully repairing the distribution system and restoring the operation of 20 substations in Aceh, the company will focus on the next recovery stage by restoring electricity supply to isolated regions, he said.
Prasodjo affirmed that PLN would restore electricity supply gradually and safely, particularly in areas where floodwaters have yet to recede, to ensure residents’ safety.
“Following government instructions, we will expedite electricity recovery after the disaster to ensure residents can enjoy electricity again,” he said.
The restoration of the Nagan Raya steam power plant played a critical role in the recovery of Aceh’s electricity supply, he added, noting that the plant now has a sufficient backup system to support power supply across the province.
The power plant recovery will also optimize the operation of the Nagan–Sigli transmission line as part of Aceh’s electricity grid, Prasodjo remarked.
Meanwhile, PT PLN has restored the Arun–Bireuen and Pangkalan Brandan–Langsa transmission lines, which serve as the backbone of the Aceh–Sumatra interconnection after being damaged by floods and landslides.
The company noted that at least five 150-kilovolt high-voltage overhead line (SUTT) towers on the Langsa–Pangkalan Brandan line collapsed, while seven others were damaged by flooding and landslides.
Road blockages also hampered the mobilization of repair teams and materials.
According to data from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), as of Sunday, floods and landslides had killed 1,090 people, left 186 missing, and affected millions across 52 districts and cities in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
