Magelang, Central Java (ANTARA) - The number of visitors to Borobudur Temple in Magelang District, Central Java, during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays is estimated to reach 170 thousand tourists, both domestic and foreign.

The Commercial Director of InJourney Destination Management (IDM) or PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko, Gistang Richard, said here on Monday that the peak of visits is projected to occur on December 25, 26, and 31, 2025.

“We see, in line with the national calendar from December 22, 2025 to January 1, 2026 during the Christmas and New Year holidays, that the visitor target is around 170 thousand tourists throughout the holiday period,” he said.

Richard noted that the management has prepared various attractions to enliven the atmosphere at the temple complex.

This year, Borobudur will feature Kampung Medang, offering culinary delights, and a "kampung dolanan" for families.

“For children, there will be many traditional games provided. Then, on Christmas Day there will also be special programs, including a choir performance, and we will give gifts to visitors,” he said.

Special experiences include “Borobudur Sunset” and “Borobudur Sunrise” for tourists wishing to view the temple at dawn or dusk.

“Specifically for domestic tourists, we are offering a Rp350,000 ticket promotion to climb the temple. The peak event on December 30 will feature the Mahakarya Borobudur cultural performance in collaboration with the Sabang Merauke show,” Richard said.
