He highlighted the country’s positive trend in rice production this year during an on-site inspection of staple commodity prices and stocks at Jagasatru Central Market in Cirebon, West Java, on Friday.
“We are witnessing an abundance of rice, with the country recording a surplus of 4.7 million tonnes,” Hasan affirmed.
On that note, he reiterated that the government remains committed to ensuring sufficient supplies of rice nationwide through effective and efficient stock management and distribution mechanisms.
Reporting on his market inspection, the minister stated that Cirebon has relatively secure stocks and stable prices of basic goods.
“Rice is sufficient, and fish is in surplus, while the prices of chilies and eggs have declined,” he said, adding that broiler chickens were selling at Rp1,000 (US$0.05) lower per kilogram compared to previous days.
Considering the trend, Hasan expressed optimism that prices and supplies will remain stable until next year’s Eid al-Fitr.
Meanwhile, Head of Cirebon’s Cooperative, Small and Medium Enterprises, Trade, and Industry Office Iing Daiman noted that the minister visited the central market to directly monitor consumer-level pricing trends.
He confirmed that the prices of several commodities that had previously risen have begun to decline, including various types of chilies. He attributed this trend to prudent consumer spending and the ongoing harvest of several horticultural crops.
Daiman further said that the Cirebon municipal government is working closely with market operators to maintain price stability through intensive communication with distributors and suppliers in a bid to ensure smooth trade before and during religious holidays.
