The museum is designed to educate younger generations about the values, courage, and justice championed by Marsinah, a labor activist recognized as a national hero in Indonesia.
“What we are building is not just a physical structure, but a space of values. Here, young people can learn about courage, honesty, and standing for justice, as exemplified by Marsinah,” Khofifah said in a statement on Sunday.
She emphasized that the museum and accompanying shelter house will serve as a center for preserving and sharing Marsinah’s legacy.
“Respect for heroes does not end at the grave. It must continue by carrying forward the values of their struggle into today’s life,” she added.
Governor Khofifah on Saturday joined National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo in visiting Marsinah’s grave, where they laid the first stone for the museum and scattered flowers in tribute.
They also met with Marsinah’s family at her former residence.
General Listyo highlighted the importance of remembering Marsinah’s arduous fight for workers’ rights.
“The museum will showcase Marsinah’s personal belongings—letters, notes to her sibling, diary entries, pens, clothing, and other documents—offering insight into her life journey as a labor activist,” he explained.
He stressed that Marsinah’s spirit of defending labor rights must be preserved to inspire younger generations of workers, encouraging them to continue the collective struggle for justice and dignity in the workplace.
