Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is pressing ahead with emergency response and post-disaster recovery efforts after deadly floods and landslides hit parts of Sumatra, even as the country enters the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 holiday period, the government said Sunday.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno said authorities remain fully mobilized to support affected communities in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra, stressing that disaster response would not slow during the year-end transition.

“We are present in Aceh to ensure that accelerated emergency and recovery measures continue ahead of the year-end period. Everyone keeps working and helping communities affected by disasters,” Pratikno said in a statement.

He noted that 13 districts and cities across the three provinces have officially moved from the emergency response phase into the recovery stage.

The transition covers four districts and cities in Aceh Province, five in North Sumatra and four in West Sumatra.

However, Pratikno said Aceh remains under heightened alert, with 11 districts extending their emergency response status to ensure that urgent needs such as food, shelter and medical services are fully met.

“All of this is done to make sure emergency measures for residents can be implemented optimally and that regions are truly ready to enter the recovery phase,” he said.

The minister added that progress in building temporary and permanent housing shows the government’s commitment to accelerating recovery, even during the holiday season.

In Aceh, Pidie Jaya District has begun constructing temporary housing for displaced residents. Six other districts — Aceh Tamiang, North Aceh, Central Aceh, Gayo Lues, Bener Meriah and Bireuen — are preparing land and opening access roads to housing sites.

Two additional districts, East Aceh and Nagan Raya, are still identifying suitable land for relocation and reconstruction.

In North Sumatra, four regions — Sibolga City, North Tapanuli, South Tapanuli and Langkat — have already started building both temporary shelters and permanent homes.

Meanwhile, in West Sumatra, five districts are constructing temporary housing: Pesisir Selatan with eight units, Lima Puluh Kota with three housing pairs, Padang Pariaman with seven pairs or 17 units, Tanah Datar with one pair, and Agam with two pairs.
