“The development of the legislative and judicial complexes began in early December 2025 and is scheduled for completion by December 2027, enabling state institutions to function optimally and support national-level decision-making,” he said in a statement cited here on Thursday.
Gibran made the remarks during a firsthand inspection of the ongoing development of the new capital city in parts of North Penajam Paser and Kutai Kartanegara districts of East Kalimantan Province on Wednesday (December 31).
The visit was in line with President Prabowo Subianto's administration's commitment to pushing for the designation of Nusantara as the capital for political affairs by 2028, as outlined in Presidential Regulation No. 79 of 2025.
On that occasion, the vice president took time to directly review plans for constructing buildings of the Supreme Court (MA), the Constitutional Court (MK), and the Judicial Commission (KY), which will form the IKN judicial complex.
He was accompanied by Head of the IKN Authority (OIKN) Basuki Hadimuljono, Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti, and East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas'ud.
In the same statement, Director of Facilities and Infrastructure at the OIKN Cakra Negara highlighted that the designs for each judicial building are intended to reflect the values and principles of the respective institutions.
“The capacity of courtrooms within the judicial complex ranges from 60 to 800 seats,” he noted.
Regarding the legislative complex, Negara explained that it will feature the Plaza of Democracy, a public space designed for citizens to directly convey their aspirations to the government and parliament.
“The planned plenary chamber of the legislative complex is designed to accommodate 1,500 people, though the number may change in line with a potential increase in legislators,” he added.
He further stated that the complex will also include rooms for parliamentary commissions, lesser session halls, and various supporting facilities.
